"After father Amandil sailed west on his advice, he prepared ships on the east coast of the island, in the port of Romainna, in case of forced escape. He refused to obey Ar-Farazon's command and join his squadron; avoiding Sauron's mercenaries, who had been sent to capture him and set him on fire in the temple of Melkor, he boarded the ship and anchored in the distance from the shore. Thus Elendil, along with his sons Isildur and Anarion, and other faithful, escaped during the overthrow of Numenor and fled to Middle-Earth. Four of the nine ships were under Elendil's personal command.»
